Fernando Alonso holds off Perez to win in Malaysia GP

Fernando Alonso, Ferrari

Alonso and Perez, exploit the opportunity and secure in a rain-dominated Malaysian Grand Prix victory and the sensational second place.

The Malaysian Grand Prix has brought the fans due to rains once again an unusual race. Once the conditions for the start of the race with a slightly damp track and raindrops were manageable yet, the rain intensity increased temporarily so that the race director was forced to first send the safety car on the track and then the Grand Prix at Sepang even to interrupt.

Lewis Hamilton completed the podium, with his McLaren team-mate Jenson Button outside the points after a disastrous race. Sebastian Vettel also failed to score due to a clash in traffic, though his Red Bull team-mate Mark Webber claimed fourth ahead of Kimi Raikkonen (Lotus) and Bruno Senna (Williams).

Laps 50: Perez round hanging in the rear of Alonso - but a few corners later contributed an error slipped off the track and fell back by around five seconds. This broke off contact with the Ferrari driver and Perez accepted the invitation of his team to drive this important second place finish. In the penultimate round of Pastor Maldonado (Williams) retired with an engine problem in the off - Michael Schumacher inherited a championship point.
